The 130th Glasgow Company, The Boys' Brigade is a youth organisation based in Broomhill in the west end of Glasgow, Scotland. Our three age sections all meet on Friday nights during school term time and membership is open to boys between the ages of 5 and 18. Each section runs a packed but varied programme of activities and events that is not only energetic but challenging and enjoyable.
Company Section October 2017
With the new session now well underway, we are expecting another busy year with Company Section consisting of around 17 boys ranging from P7 to S6.
For this reason we are delighted to welcome back three boys who reached the Brigade age limit and have now returned as staff sergeants.
Lachlan Callen, John Law and David Molloy ended last session by gaining their Queen’s badges, and now have the opportunity to pass on their experience to younger boys.
Midweek activities are already underway, with the District Five-a-side Football event held in mid-September which saw our team win the competition, achieving six wins from six games. Congratulations to the boys involved.
It will be followed on October 9th by the District Sports, also at Scotstoun, which will see boys from across the District competing in a series of track and field events.
During the year, the attention of our oldest boys will also be on gaining their Queen’s Badge. Varnit Gupta, Alistair Meldrum, Dhruv Shah and Fergus Watson are halfway through working towards the award and will be completing work this session.
Between now and Christmas we also have a number of other events taking place, and we have one eye on the first Church Parade of the session which this year will take place on Remembrance Sunday, November 12th.
Junior Section October 2017
Junior Section has resumed for another session and with 15 boys enrolled, we're looking forward to a busy session ahead.
In recent weeks, the boys have been learning some simple figure marching as well as participating in a number of new games as they get to know each other.
In mid-September, we took part in our first District event of the session, the five-a-side football at Scotstoun. Despite having a relatively young team, our squad of six boys played exceptionally well to finish as competition runners up, winning four and drawing two of their seven matches, losing just once to the eventual competition winners.
Looking ahead, we'll be hoping for more success at the next competition, the District Sports, which is held on the track and field at Scotstoun in early October.
This session also marks the centenary of the Junior Section age group (or The Life Boys as it was once known) within The Boys' Brigade. As part of the events to mark 100 years, we will be participating in a Juniors 100 Challenge Day at BB Glasgow HQ in the coming weeks. Boys will be asked to complete a number of challenges from a list of 100 published by The Boys' Brigade - details on how we get on will follow next month.
Company Section September 2017
Earlier in August, 13 Company Section boys and three leaders travelled to Barcaple Outdoor Centre near Castle Douglas in Dumfries and Galloway for our annual Summer Camp.
We enjoyed a busy five days with boys taking part in a wide range of activities, with highlights including kayaking and canoeing, mountain biking, archery, zip wiring, crate climbing and raft building.
While a lot of the activities involved getting wet and muddy, we were blessed with good weather for much of the week, which meant the evenings could be spent doing things like playing football, enjoying a camp fire, and taking part in repeated games of “hunt the welly”.
Having returned from camp, our attention now turns towards the beginning of the new session, with enrolment taking place on Friday, September 1st at 8.00pm.
Normal activities include sports, games, badge work, bugle band, drill, vaulting and a large number of competitions with other local companies as well as our own Company outings.
We ended last session with 19 boys in the Company Section and we hope to have similar numbers this time around. Any boy between the school ages of P7 and S6 will be made most welcome.

Anchor Boys October 2017
Anchor Boys has now resumed after the long break over the summer. We are delighted to welcome several new members to the section.
We have now met for a couple of evenings. Our first night was based on journeys and we heard about how the boys spent their holidays. We then talked about the Boys' Brigade and how the boys will make a journey through the three different sections.
We finished by being creative and making pictures from various templates which were painted and used as stamps. Our second evening let the boys have lots of fun whilst playing a mixture of games. We have an exciting program planned for the rest of the session.
Any boy in Primary 1, 2 or 3 is welcome to join us. We meet on Friday evenings in the small hall at the Naseby Park Sanctuary.
Company Section October 2016
With the new session now well underway, we are expecting another busy year with Company Section again consisting of around 20 boys ranging from P7 to S6.
The session got off to a tasty start with the Company running the barbecue and tuck shop at the recent Naseby Park Fun Day, selling more than 150 burgers on the day, so thanks to all those who came along.
Midweek activities are also already underway, with the District Five-a-side Football Competition on September 19th being the first date in a busy calendar of events.
It will be followed on October 5th by the District Sports, also at Scotstoun, which will see boys from across the District competing in a series of track and field events.
During the year, the attention of senior boys will also be on gaining the Brigade’s more advanced awards. Lachlan Callen, John Law, Keshav Mahendra, Ruaraidh Meldrum and David Molloy are halfway through work on their Queen’s Badge, while Alistair Meldrum, Varnit Gupta, Ruairidh Paterson, Dhruv Shah and Fergus Watson are starting work on their Queen’s Badge this session.
Between now and Christmas we also have a number of other events taking place, and we have one eye on the first Church Parade of the session which this year will take place on Remembrance Sunday, November 13th.
